What a long, strange trip it's been.....

Been away, not trippin!
Life has changed and so has my quest for just that perfect , where I can go next thing!

I think I'll be going to the movies, making one actually...a documentary about color, of course. I've been collecting and archiving ideas for some time now, and feel ready to move ahead with it...

Perhaps you know of some amazing work that's being done from the arts to business...
Let me know.

I'd love to hear about these things, I'm only one person and might have missed it...
Later,
Mistress Indigo

Noisy color?

Ok, here's another question,  like when I asked the color of time? September 13th... Well, what about the sound of color or the color of busy, noisy sound?

Depends right? Quiet, noisy, jazz, hard rock, classical?

Romance and art...

MOMA had a screening...of Art 21: Art in the twenty-first century, before it hits TV! The one called Romance brought four artists together bringing the definition of romance into a new light...

Here's what they said....

Romance,” the first hour of Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century, Season 4, poses questions about the value of pleasure in art and features artists whose works are extended meditations on mortality, love, reality, and make-believe.

Boy, i get to go to some of the most fascinating things!

Himalayan Hues

Just went to the Rubin Art Museum Nine Rivers Gala after party benefit last night and fell in love...again with Tibetan art and the way they juxtapose (love that word) colors together in prints and watercolors. Amazing combinations of delicate and strong mineral pigments were used on fabrics and paper.

Here's a little description for you (yes, I cut & pasted)...

Bon: The Magic Word is the first exhibition of art to illuminate the Bon, a religious and cultural group living in the Himalayas and Central Asia—a group almost unknown in the Western world. Bon culture and religion pre-date the northern advance of Buddhism onto the Tibetan Plateau in the 7th century. Despite Buddhism’s growth in popularity since the 11th century.

This exhibition will identify a substrate of belief in the spirits of place and natural formations—mountains, sky, rivers, stones, and lakes—springing from Bon that runs through the edifices of religions in the region. It will also begin to train the eye to see distinctive Bon features in the arts of the Himalayas and surrounding regions.

About Mistress Indigo

Well, I was born into the vibrant world of color...in fact the first color I saw was green, and from what people tell me, I was purple(ish) in appearance! The second two colors seen were of course...black & white  (stars from being slapped on the bottom)!

From then on every smell, taste and touch had a color attached to it...I still have memories of rolling in the fields by my first house, bright grass green will always have a special place in my  head  (nose)...

My first summer job in high school was matching ink colors to paint samples, and boy was that magical. Twisting and turning the batch of color into a magical mix. That laboratory looked like the factory in Willy Wonka, but more colorful!

As I got to working age, I ventured more closely into the professional realm of color...being surrounded by at least one thousand hues per day at Pantone checking color standards in spectrophtometer against actual statistical data....Sound too much? Well logos have to maintain exact fonts and color design all over the world for all companies. And corporate color for packaging must match their colors for t-shirts and any merchandise they have for promotions or anything really....

My favorite word for many years was 'infringement'! Unknown companies claiming they were the real company by using their corporate colors. NOT allowed! Think Tiffany Blue being used by another jewelry company...A legal no-no!

TO BE CONTINUED....

Color to me isn't the same to you.....

How stupid of me not to talk about this right at the start! I mean no one sees the same exact color, or I should say,  how do we know? Kind of spooky huh? That's why color systems like Pantone or Munsell were created (any color you see is the color you get, because there are numbers telling the color story too)...

What better way to use this as an example than at the hair colorist. Your idea of golden blonde is different than his. And pictures in this case don't describe the color well at all. So frustrating...so you'll both look at sample swatches of hair.

What are some of your war stories with color?

Color, so unique....almost

Well, what about those ubiquitous white headphones? Yes, a genius idea, but not so different from the person walking next to you!  Now the imacs were a fantastic thing...but wouldn't it be cool to have your  stuff change color according to the  mood your in, or....

Color of time?

I have been around color for years as you may know already, and in the past 20 or some odd years I've been into the multi-sensory aspect of color. That means that color naturally effects other senses and vice versa. About 10% of the human population have it...

Like red has a certain scent. It smells like something different to another person. Or like nothing at all...anyay..
I got to thinking about the passing of time. And the smell of it! Imagine?

Time stands still looks like what color, moving at the speed of sound looks like what hue...but never mind cliches, how about real  time (oops). I mean how you spend time...

In the office, doing work...what color is that time?
At home, spending time with friends or just resting, what hue?

Right now I'm typing this and it feels like a roasted copper...sort of reddish gold with a warm caramel coating...
